Today we met some friends at the park and then headed to Chick-Fil-A for lunch. Here's our big table of kids, except I couldn't fit the two little girls, Avery and Penelope, but they were at the end of the table. And I accidentally cut off Laura - oops! But it was a fun and worn-out kind of day for the kids, which is the perfect summer day, I think!

I take pictures. This blog is a way for me to capture the every day moments in this season of my life before it becomes too foggy in my memory for me to recall. This is a tangible reminder of what my life was like, what we did, what was important to us, how we spent our days. These are the every day matters, because to me, every day matters.

We joined a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) this summer and today was our first share. I was so excited to receive our bounty! This, along with our own garden, should ensure that we are eating fresh veggies all summer long! I love that we are supporting local agriculture, eating fresh and healthy, as well as trying new things that I normally wouldn't purchase. I've been scouring the blogosphere for new recipes to try. This share included broccoli, cauliflower, two types of lettuce, swiss chard, bok choy, garlic, radishes and yummy strawberries that are just about gone (head of girl not included). I also loved that the kids were so excited about some local produce!
Christian also started his first guitar lesson today, and we received a lot of our curriculum for the fall. The kids tore into the curriculum boxes and Christian shouted "MOM! Can we start this RIGHT NOW?" Oh, that he would have that same enthusiasm come August!

We hear pitiful cries of "AHHHGHGHHG!" "AHHGHGHGHGGHHHHHGG!" so we come to the schoolroom to see Avery trying to get up in the chair. Why? Because she wants to color. Christian became quite obsessed with coloring from an early age. It appears that Avery is as well. (You see she's pointing - get me that crayon, Mama!)

The view out the window after a very emotional evening. Ansley had taken her baby bird (whom she has very lovingly and devotedly hand fed for many days) out of his box. Christian didn't know this, and accidentally stepped on him, killing him. Ansley was hysterical. VERY upset. Christian was upset. Avery always cries if someone else is crying. I was also quite sad about it. A life lesson, right? But a sad life lesson.

Ansley and I attended our neighbor's daughter's wedding this afternoon. It was Ansley's first wedding ever, and it was a sweet afternoon for just the two of us. The wedding was out a little ways, so we had fun chatting in the car, and then we enjoyed the wedding and reception together. Grace (the bride) used to babysit Ansley and Christian when we first moved here. Crazy how time flies!

Today we went downtown with our friends Kent and Allison and their kids. There was lots going on. As we were walking, there was a big dance line happening, so the girls jumped in (you can see Ansley and Kennedy) and then Kennedy's dad, Kent, jumped right in too. It made me laugh so I had to use this photo for today!

Today we went to my friend Amy's house and had a pool day. I was a little worried about Avery, but she actually had a blast, and was WAY less fussy there than at home. They all had a great time, getting some sun, playing with friends and eating ice cream.
(Ansley and Christian also had tennis lessons this afternoon, and by dinnertime they were WORN OUT. A good, summer kind of worn out.)

Oh, how I LOVE our new garage doors!
A few side stories are required. Over a year ago (yes, ONEENTIREYEARHASPASSED) we had a super bad hail storm that damaged our roof, garage doors, windows, among other things. We had the roof replaced last fall, but our garage doors are just now being replaced, and we decided to change the look of our house. But let's back up a bit more....about two or three months ago, that big garage door you see there? Well, it broke. But since we knew that ANYDAYNOW we would be getting new ones, we waited. So for almost three months now, I haven't been able to open the garage door. I know, poor me. But it really created issues in my life. So now, not only do we have garage doors that open, but they are fabulous looking as well! We also got our windows replaced, just FYI.
And, tomorrow or Monday the painters come for an even more dramatic change to our house. I'll post before and after pictures of that too, but I can't wait to see how it looks!
