Also in that discovery (see yesterday) came the knowledge that they make patterns for 18 inch dolls like Ellie. This has absolutely thrilled Ansley senseless. And me, too, apparently, since I am attempting to make these clothes. So we purchased the pattern and this cute cherry fabric, and this morning Ansley was all ready to get started. But patterns, they don't use normal language and they don't really make much sense, and so I didn't get anywhere. So, I thought, we'll just go back to JoAnn's (where we found all of this) and ask for some help. That was a great idea. If I could write a letter to JoAnn's to sum up my experience, it would be this:
Dear JoAnn's,
You suck.
Sincerely,
Lost in a Pattern
I asked one of the employees, who work in the fabric section, if she could help me. Said I was having some trouble with the pattern. "Read the instructions" she says.
Wow. What great advice. I hope they pay her really well for that kind of advice. Why didn't I think of that? Oh, right, that's because THE DIRECTIONS MAKE NO SENSE. Fuse what? Add a casing huh?
Another employee was "too busy" (her direct quote) to help. I glance around, observing all the emptiness, and she mumbles something about putting fabric back.
And yet another employee suggested taking a class. Okay, I get it - JoAnn's employees are not allowed to actually help customers, just steer them to classes. So I guess that's where I am left, cuz I won't be figuring out that pattern anytime soon.
But Ansley is so excited about it that I'll probably overlook the fact that I really am not happy with JoAnn's, take the class, and make the dress for Ellie.
I would love to take the time to take a sewing class. My sweet husband gave me a nice sewing machine after I insisted that I really wanted it (and that it wasn't like buying me a vacuum) but I have only used it once with my sister's help. I am clueless and haven't taken the time yet to figure things out and teach myself.
