Dear Ansley,
I sat down with you today for a four year interview. I have never thought to do this before, but perhaps before now you wouldn't have had the vocabulary (not to mention attention span) to answer them. I guess I will never know. But this year, I did, and I would describe the interview as funny. In fact, an adjective pretty high on my list to describe you would be funny. Among others: beautiful, intelligent, persistent, friendly, silly, energetic. I wrote down your answers word for word; I know someday, years from now, we'll look back on this interview and both have a good laugh together. But I'm sure you will still be funny.
M (for Mommy): What do you want to be when you grow up?
A (for Ansley, of course): Be? I think a dancer. Like this (gets up out of chair and starts to twirl around the room).
M: Mommy loves dancing too! What is your favorite thing that God made?
A: Me! (We are nothing if not self-esteem boosters). And then squash. Then probably toys.
M: What is your favorite activity?
A: Painting! Or playing games. I do like to read, too. Wait a minute! I can't read. I like books.
M: What is your favorite color?
A: Pink. And purple. And red and green. Write all four of those down. Mom? Are you writing all four?
M: Yes, I have all four. What is your favorite animal?
A: A hippo and a giraffe.
M: What is your favorite bug?
A: A dragonfly.
M: What is your favorite thing to do with Daddy?
A: Play. All night.
M: What is your favorite thing to do with Mommy?
A: Read.
M: Do you think you'll be a Mommy when you grow up?
A: No.
M: Why not?
A: Because you gotta have curly hair. To be a Mommy.
M: Oh, I see. Who is your favorite friend?
A: You, Mommy.
M: Who is your second favorite friend?
A: Daddy.
A: Mom, ask me my favorite animal.
M: I already...nevermind, ok - what is your favorite animal?
A: Greiner the kitten. (our neighbor's kitten - Ansley named him).
A: Mom, can we get a kitten?
M: No. What do you not like?
A: Crickets.
M: You don't like crickets?
A: Yeah I do, I do, I do. Puffies.
M: You like puffies. You eat Christian's all the time.
A: Not the cherry ones. I don't like the cherry ones.
M: True. What's your favorite song?
A: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
A: Hey! I know what I want for my birthday!
M: What's that?
A: A little chair and lots of nail polish.
M. How old is Daddy?
A: I haven't decided yet.
M: What is your favorite day?
A: Friday!
M: What's your favorite snack?
A: Snow Cream and Moose Tracks.
M: What is your favorite thing about Christian?
A: His laugh. Making him laugh.
Ansley, you make my heart so full I'm afraid it might burst. You make me proud, you make me laugh, you make me happy, and sometimes you make me want to pull my hair out. But always, always, I love you completely and adore the little girl you are becoming. Because of you, this Mama was born, and I am forever changed.
I love you,
Mama
That made my day. She's a funny funny girl. We're looking forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks. The theme of our gift this year is books and bugs. Be prepared Megan for the bugs. :)

Wow- that first picture (and really all of them) she looks SO old! How is that possible? Did you tweek the color of the first one in photoshop or something? It's just such vibrant color, it's amazing! Paige's favorite song is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star too :) Love the interview idea- I may just have to steal that! Makes for a great scrapbook page, and something years from now to look back on and laugh! Very sweet- and I like how you say "because of you this momma was born"- as it's exactly how I feel with my kiddos!

BTW- how did you get her to cooperate SO well with the pictures???!

Your interview made me smile. :) I am definitely going to borrow the idea with my girls, perhaps right before their birthdays too. It's funny how I think I know what some of their answers will be but then they'll surprise me. . . Beautiful photos of a very beautiful little girl! I like how you captured so many different expressions... Have fun with your birthday party plans!
