John kicked off Valentine's Day weekend yesterday by sneaking in while the kids and I were upstairs and setting up flowers and chocolate covered strawberries for me. Yum!
Love is patient. Love is kind
Last night we enjoyed a date night with our friends Mark and Leigh Ann. It was a fun evening of relaxing, eating and chatting! We used a new babysitter (a friend had recommended her), so we ended our evening by returning home to a (nearly) spotless home! The sitter, Ashley, had cleaned our house for us after the kids went to sleep. We were quite amazed, and thankful! (Now, before you get too jealous, Ashley did come with a hefty price tag, but after we got home, we felt it was worth it!)
and envies no one.
Then this morning, we started off Valentine's Day with our heart day tradition. Well, we started it last year, so it's a tradition of two years, but that counts, right? I LOVE Valentine's Day - really just an excuse for more love - and I love that we have fun traditions to share with the kids. Ansley has literally talked about this one for a year now! The Now-Famous Chocolate Filled Heart Sandwiches for breakfast. I should name them something different - it's getting a little long.
But they are yummy, with some powdered sugar and sprinkles for ooohs and ahhhhs. Ansley and Christian devoured them quickly.
Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude;
Then we moved on to our second tradition - the Valentine's Day Scavenger Hunt. We've done this every year, starting when Ansley was two, so it was fun this year to have both of them getting in on it!
There are clues all over the house, and each one leads to the next one, but sometimes they have to think a little before knowing where the next clue is. Yeah, I guess I didn't really need to explain that - everyone knows what a scavenger hunt is!
nor selfish, or quick to take offense.
This clue was "Your favorite thing to drink" - while Ansley's looking, you can see the clue in the milk carton.
Christian was even able to get in on the hunt! This clue was "Where your pants are kept" and he went right to this drawer and opened it up, much to the delight of both of them!
There is nothing love cannot face;
there is no limit to its faith, its hope, its endurance.
Eventually their search took them to the (amazingly spotlessly clean) playroom where they found their surprises hidden in Ansley's tent. Ansley was pretty thrilled, as she always is after scavenger hunting!
And Christian was pretty excited to tear right into his surprises, too!
In a word, there are three things that last forever:
A fun day celebrating the love we have for each other!
faith, hope and love. But the greatest of them all is LOVE. 1 Corinthians 13:4
Happy Valentine's Day to you all!!! I love you!!!

What a sweet picture of them on the rocking chair. I wonder if I have a similar picture of you and Jonathan? I think not!
