Ansley cried for about 2.4 seconds today after Christian left. (Don't know what I'm talking about? See Project 365.) Then, her mind started filling with all the things that we could do with Christian not around. Play games without having pieces walk off! Play dolls without having them run over by Baby Cars! Play Baby Cars without hearing MY Baby Cars! Bake without making a mess! Ansley decided that I needed some cookies to "heal better."
(I would also like to point out Way #453 My Child is So Different From Me: she can actually look at my scar without making weird faces or gagging noises or turning away and puking. I could have never done that at five. Actually, I can't do that at thirty-three.)
So our afternoon consisted of games, dolls, cars, and cookies. Ansley was SO excited to get to make something together, just the two of us.
Oh, yes, and she also caught word of some "warm weather" coming our way, and busted right out in the tank top and shorts. For making cookies, it worked. You do work up quite a sweat in the kitchen, with the oven on.
We decided on Colossal Chocolate Chip Cookies. She measured, poured, stirred....well, and as you can see, spilled a little too.
She enjoyed turning the mixer on to the setting that I told her, and then watching it mix. She even got to crack the eggs BY! HERSELF! and add them - she was SO thrilled about that!
Then the rolling began. And the finger licking. But we finally managed to get all the dough either in our stomachs or on an ungreased cookie sheet. Then Ansley patiently sat by the oven and watched, for the full ten minutes, while they baked.
Colossal was the right word for them. They were huge. I mean, are huge, of course they aren't gone already. That would be shameful. They are sitting right over there on...the....where'd they go?
So glad you had that mother-daughter cookies and healing time together! Ansley is blessed to have you for her mama!!!
