I have good intentions of having Art Time. An official sounding time in our day where the kids sit attentively at the table, on the edge of their seats, awaiting what wonderful project we will be working on. Where they delight in the activity and stay occupied for minutes on end while I smile and observe and oooh and ahhhhh. But somehow, that doesn't always find its way into our weeks. Sometimes there's just so much schoolwork to get done that unfortunately, art is the first to go.
Also on the good intention list, if you're interested: running every morning, having perfectly organized closets and cabinets, and getting back to scrapbooking.
If I were a bettin' woman, I'd go with the Art Time first.
So in keeping with the apple themeof our week, and in trying to get better about doing art projects, we did some apple prints today. And I will say I did have those attentive, on the edge of their seats kids, so eager were they to do ART. I covered our table with a clear tablecloth (that I use just for these types of things), cut several apples different ways, squirted some fun fall colors on paper plates, and off they went.
They had a great time. Both of them really get into projects these days. And I thought I would be all stressed about Christian making a mess, but he really did a good job. (Well, and they were washable paints).
He did make a little mess, but it washed right out.
She looks very proud of her accomplishment, doesn't she?
Here is Christian's apple print. Not bad, right? He liked to kind of smear the apple down the page once he got the paint on. But that's okay, it's all about creativity.
And Ansley's apple print. She added quite a bit to hers, which I thought was cute. Writing fall at the top, and making swirly colors in between all the apples.
We have them hanging on our windows so we can admire them every day.
If you have some extra apples, I would recommend some apple prints!
Very fun! Unfortunately, art is normally one of the first subjects to be deleted here too when trying to get school work done. Thanks for reminding me of how much fun kids have with art. It's time for us to do an art project.

Ansley and Christian, you are wonderful apple artists! :) Megan, I agree with you and Ashley that often the art that we all enjoy gets put off for another day - usually another rainy day here in MS lately. Hannah and Lydia made apple prints a few weeks ago but we only used red. I really like your choice of fall colors. It was interesting that Hannah's was very precise showing the stars in the middle yet not very creative and of course Lydia added lots of smearing with a toddler flourish at the end. Mary Ann Kohl, the author of Preschool Art, says that "it's the process, not the product." :)
