Here's my latest project. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, especially considering I am not a sewer. Ah, wait, that looks like a sewer, like what nasty stuff travels through, and while I'm definitely not that, I meant like one who sews, a seamstress, and then just added an -er. A sew-er. Maybe that's not a word. A seamstress. We'll go with that. Those crinkly little patterns, while I love the sound and feel of them, I cannot follow them to save my life.I get so confused and my cute little dress ends up looking like a placemat.
Thankfully, it seems like the newest thing is an online step-by-step. THAT works much better for me! Kinda like directions, I can't work with a map, but if I have a list of turn right here, go straight here, I'm there. So at least I'm consistent with my ability to follow directions.
Anyway, I discovered this website, and I love it. Her directions are super easy to follow, and on the left hand side she has a handful of free patterns. I made her bib pattern, and they turned out SO cute. Did I post a picture? I can't remember. I'll try and do that. So this is my second project, and I'm now a devoted fan of her website. CUTE, easy stuff. Well, semi-easy. I made this sunsuit in an afternoon, and then finished the straps today (only because I didn't want to mess with buttonholes. They scare me. Her pattern uses buttons, but I went with straps instead.)
I do have a slight problem. Her instructions say to measure the baby, but I didn't have a baby to measure just yet, so I just guessed. I think I'm thinking that my baby is going to be big, because I was aiming for a 6-12 month outfit, but I think this is more like 12-18 months. Which, for Avery, will be in the winter, and obviously this is a summer outfit. Like next summer. So I may have to make another one that's more 3-6 months so she can wear it this summer. Just because I want to.
AND I got this fabric from JoAnn's for $5 a yard, and I used a half a yard on this, so for $2.50 I have a super cute sunsuit! What a deal, right? And you all know how frugal I am. Or, want to be. Try to be? I'm really not, but every once in awhile when my interests line up with frugality, I have to point it out.
Oh, and here's a close up, in case you wanted to see the shirring. That's a new word for me, but it means that gathering at the top, kind of like faux smocking. That was a little bit tricky, but not too bad, obviously, since I figured it out.
Just don't look too closely at the stitching.
Very cute. I always enjoying seeing what others have sewed b/c it's such a mystery to me. Glad you had fun making it for your baby girl. :)

Super cute! You will have to get some great pictures in that outfit...or the smaller one you plan to make. ;)
