Work is steadily moving along with the porch. It's just seriously a LOT of work! The kids and I have been amazed at how much it has taken. I naively thought it's just a roof and some screen, what can be so hard? Weeeellll, there's a whole lot more that goes into it, that's for sure!
(In case you missed Part One, you can click here to see it from the beginning.)
I realized that because I always take these photos at the end of the day (when they are done for the day) they always look pretty dark, so I have a few (or at least one) that I took in the morning to make it easier to see.
Sometimes it's hard to tell what progress was made from day to day, because there are SO many details that go into it, and some that you can't see from the inside. Today the mason came and put stone on top of the columns, which really makes it look nice (even though he was very difficult to work with and left a huge mess). It gives the columns a nice finished look.
Ah, there's the morning shot. Isn't it pretty? Now we have a beadboard ceiling, and the electrical work is done. That was a bit of a fiasco, and now we have two large holes in our house, but they will get fixed soon enough. We have six recessed lights out here and two ceiling fans. I don't know if you can tell from the pictures, but our deck is huge, so we thought it needed two fans. The columns that are in between the big columns are necessary for the screen system to work. (I have no idea how this all comes together; I just repeat what I hear.)
This is where it stands now. The ceiling and columns are stained. Still to be done: the handrails and balusters, and the screen itself. And a little more painting, as you can see in the shot above - that little gray spot is driving me crazy! I'm not sure why they didn't just paint the whole thing. But it should all be done by the end of this week. We have new furniture that's all ready to go out here. (I have a feeling we can say good-bye to our kitchen table - we will be eating out here all the time!) I can't wait to see it all come together!
Here's the view from the backyard. And you can see all our painting is finally done - yay! (We got another painter to come in and finish - he completed it all in two days.) The chimney is done; our gutters are in, so the porch is all that's left! So exciting to have it almost done!
