Avery and I got to eat lunch together today. It was a sweet time, just me and her. Her and I. Me and She. Ok I know that last one is wrong but it does make me laugh. She enjoyed some apples and I enjoyed....well that's not really important. Of course I wouldn't eat at Chick-Fil-A since the kids aren't here. Well, I could have because it sounded good. Ok, I did. And I told Avery that I couldn't wait til she was old enough to appreciate the finer things in life. Like the Chick.

Quiet days. Really, really strange. While it has been fun to just hang out with John and Avery, I sure do miss those kids! It's just not quite the same without those little munchkins running around, chatting away and playing.
Oh, but this is a picture of our Sloppy Joe's we had for dinner. I don't think the kids would've liked them, so I made them for us. Again, STRANGE fixing dinner for TWO.

Storytime!
Once upon a time there was a girl who LOVED root beer floats, and she happily enjoyed them with Barq's or A&W. Then, this girl discovered Boylan's root beer, and her WHOLE WORLD was changed. The End.
That's the short story. The longer version is this: a few weeks ago we were at Jason's Deli, and we always get root beer floats, because ice cream comes with your meal so we just put it in our glasses and then fill it up with root beer. And I say we meaning me and John; the kids don't drink carbonated beverages, because what I put in my body is totally inappropriate for young kids to put in theirs. Anyway, on that day the root beer was out. We were so disappointed. Until the friendly employee brought us one from the back: Boylan's Root Beer. Hmmm, that was awfully nice, we thought. Little did we know how it would change our lives. THE BEST ROOT BEER EVER. Period. It was the most delicious root beer float we had ever had, so much so that we spent all afternoon searching for a local carrier of Boylan's Root Beer. We have yet to find one. (So we went to Jason's Deli and bought two bottles.)
Such is our love of root beer floats. And now Boylan's.

In other news, John played golf today so it was just me and Avery. I got SO much done. It's really incredible how your perspective changes, because I sure remember well when I thought having one was really tough. Now, I know better.

Every single night, Ansley and Christian sleep together. They alternate beds, but I always go in to check on them before I go to bed, and I love to see them snuggled up together. I imagine what Avery will look like in between them, when she gets older. But this week, Ansley and Christian are with their Granna, and it is SO STRANGE to have such a quiet house. And this empty bed. And to just have one small baby to check on at night.

There are a few shots that I can't seem to get enough of, that my kids will probably call me obsessed with when they are older: hiney shots and book shots. I love that this girl loves to read, and summer is the perfect time because I don't have to ask her to put the book away since we have other subjects. She can read all she wants!

Our last playdate with our sweet friends, who are moving to Florida at week's end. Alex, Luke, Ansley, Jake and Christian. Ansley is always outnumbered, but she never seems to mind playing with all these boys. It has been fun having them in Knoxville, but now they are on to new adventures!

We've played this game since Ansley was a baby, when her foot barely covered my heel. Slowly, she's gaining on me, this almost eight-year old. I don't think it will be long before she will be surpassing me!
