This is Julius. (His original name was Butterscotch, but Ansley wanted to name him Julius, after one of her favorite drinks, the orange julius. I thought it was clever.) Just because I play favorites doesn't mean I don't adore him, too. He is so sweet and loving. He purrs often and loudly. He sleeps with Ansley every night, and she can hold him like a baby and he just purrs and falls asleep. He loves to play with his brother, and they play fight a lot, which is very entertaining. He is the softer of the two, and Ansley's favorite. I find him very adorable as well.

I take pictures. This blog is a way for me to capture the every day moments in this season of my life before it becomes too foggy in my memory for me to recall. This is a tangible reminder of what my life was like, what we did, what was important to us, how we spent our days. These are the every day matters, because to me, every day matters.

This is Smoky. This was the name that was given to him, and despite my attempts to change it to something a little more clever (Graydy), Smoky has stuck, so Smoky it is. It fits, since we do live in the Smoky Mountains. Smoky is super soft, and extremely loving. He has a very loud purr that is triggered by just about anything. I hate to play favorites, but he is my favorite. The first two nights, they both slept with Ansley, which has been her dream since she was little. But lately Smoky has been sleeping with me, curled up on top of me or on my pillow. He meows at me to pick him up when he wants to be held, and often naps on my shoulder. I absolutely adore him.

The kids and I drove to lots of local shelters this past week looking for a kitten. There are lots of kitties out there, but I just didn't find one that felt right. On petfinder.com, I found these two cute brothers in North Carolina. Today they offered to meet us halfway, about an hour away. I was hesitant that it was too soon, and I still felt so sad, but after meeting these guys, I knew. I knew we had to take them both, and I knew they belonged in our home. They are the sweetest, most loving kittens I've ever known. They are helping heal my heart, and they also make me laugh and give the sweetest snuggles. (Bonus: Avery doesn't even phase them!)

Christian's first baseball game was today. He had such a great coach last year, so we are a little bummed that it isn't quite the same this year, but he does love to play baseball!

Christian made a cool Lego thing where you turn part of it and another part spins and lights up. Future engineer? He loves figuring out how things work.

Avery's at that tough age where she doesn't nap anymore because she will stay up too late if she does, but come late afternoon, she becomes very difficult. Some days, she will crash when she just can't stand it any longer, especially on days when she woke up earlier than usual.

Silly kids! A bittersweet weekend for me. Always fun to catch up with friends, watch the kids play and see Mark and Ashley's beautiful new home. It was very difficult to come home to an empty house, when for 17 years I've had that white fuzzy face greeting me when I come home.
